January 2024

The Cardinals have returned for 2024 after some Christmas cheer. The highlight being everyone wished they were in Jesper’s xmas photo, instead we got Sammy’s Tradies undies. And now the reign of C4 has started, a new charter and a pile of debt.

Week 1 was the Laguna medal and thanks to Buffy most of the Cardinal debt was recovered in fines. With all of the wet weather the course was in rough shape and Jimmy took it on himself to play “lift, clean and place” resulting in a DQ. Branks took the chocolates and also the B Grade Net winner, all done under massive jet lag too. Celebrations got even wilder for Mike “no show” Kasem with a hole in one on Masters 8 during his medal round. Nico got an amateur after shooting a 6 under the week before in a pre-season round whilst having a few beers.

Our next round had Duncan and Branks on top, Dunc ahead on countback, impressive after an amateur the week before. Not many out there wearing the new Cardinal shirt this week, too many complaining Jonny O have changed their sizing and fit. One amateur for the round: Boonie.

Week 3 had Dunc on top again, on countback over A-A-Ron. Off the Classic Blues with the wind picking up made conditions challenging. Impressively Ming won his matchplay with an amateur fine, but it was against Mike “no show” Kasem who was in Batam. Kempy also shared an amateur fine and the Cardinal kitty is now back in the black. Unfortunately post round at an unrelated function and under extreme peer pressure JW got up to do some Scottish dancing and ruptured his achilles in 2 minutes. Should Kempy be fined again?

In January we welcomed CJ and Kingsley. Now the race is on between C4 getting the Cardinal shirts for these two and the Chief getting last year’s trophies engraved….who to choose?

At the end the month of January the leaderboard is:
1. Branks
2. Duncan
3. JW

February has plenty of opportunity for others to work their way onto that leaderboard before the course is closed off for the DP World event in March. We are also looking for evidence, in pictures or video, of Buffy chipping with a pistol grip.

February 2024

February was the windy month, tough conditions every Saturday led to plenty of interesting results. The month started with the Chief not doing his booking correctly and some on the tee negotiations needed to get Branks in the flight. Clearly a ploy to disrupt the Cardinal league leader and it worked.

The month saw us welcome in the year of the Dragon. A few cardinals played in the club’s Hong Bao round and dinner. The highlight being Stevie E’s dance moves in a fashion show. The next day was our Cardinal HongBao round and the smart ones pre-booked taxis where Mike Kasem pre-booked a ferry. The Big C met his flight on the Classic 4th and started with two quality air swings. The joy was too much for Buffy who got his first ladies tee fine during the round.

Nico conducted the Pairs and Singles matchplay draw and we finished the month with the medal. Runner up in both A and B grade in big winds and winner winner chicken dinner for Cookie who pre-loaded with Tequila and putted his way to Cardinal leader for the day. Not a good day for Gui who hit his ball further left and right than forward and spent more time with other flights than his own.

We go to March with the leaderboard as below and with Ming openly sharing he is starting some handicap management:
1. Branks
2. Brian “I wear pink to Tay Tay” Cook
3. Ming

C4 remains missing in action and it may have something to do with a bet he lost at Cookie’s house over a game of table tennis. He legitimately lost and the bet was to shave his head….
